The Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays have made the season's first trade.
The A's send 2-time All-Star and Season 22's first overall pick, starting pitcher Max Mullens, to the Rays for power-hitting RF Shawn Quinn.
Mullens is 93-44 with a 3.12 ERA over 7 seasons, 6 with Milwaukee. He blew out his shoulder in his last year with the Brewers, and in a stunning move, Oakland's previous GM signed him to a 5-year, $74.5 million contract while he was on the 60-day DL. He pitched only 39 innings last year but now seems fully recovered.
Quinn has hit 257 homers in 8 big-league seasons in Tampa, with a high of 43 last year.
Oakland also received talented but wild SP Edgmer Cervelli. Cervelli has a 5.51 ERA and 62 walks in 98 big-league innings pitched.
